Hi family -
We have been remiss in blogging - afraid it gets easy to rely on cell phones and the Schickie blog. Exciting news for Brooke and Luke, huh?! You guys will likely have a whole slew of new cousins over the next ten years.
It was a great weekend with celebrating Christmas at Auntie and Uncle's. They made a very nice dinner for us, we went to Kirtland to see the Nativity Display - there were over 750 nativity scenes there. It was beautiful and Rich and Joanne really enjoyed it. Mark Lewis has his own collection on display there - over 1000 characters/pieces. Quite amazing and artistic as you would expect.
They were very generous with gifts and the house has become very musical with Nanos and Ipods humming about - Dad is converted to Itunes, and seeing the beauty of it's simplicity.
They LOVED their StoryBook so thank you for all the memories that you took time to write down. Uncle Rich said that it was just this past week that they were talking about how big you all are getting and that pretty soon you wouldn't want to go spend the weekend there anymore. They talked about whether you guys would even remember all the things that you have done with them. So, it was a perfectly timed gift - and they will treasure it. Thank you for being the kind of kids that care about memories so much.
Tonight the Klopps and Weights are coming over to decorate gingerbread houses - and sing some carols. Starting tomorrow, I really need to think about packing the car - Can't believe that 2 weeks from today is Christmas Eve.
We are planning to go see Temple Square on Sunday night - Dec 23rd. That is Ya-Ya's bday and Kay-Kay and Wa-Wa's anniversary, it always has been a special day. That will be a good place to celebrate.
I love you - Have a great week!

A note from Soph
CALL ME. Max I need to hear from you more. I am starting basketball. I am blue. It's sweet!
Now of course when I'm allowed to take my earrings out, I'm done with soccer. And when I was doing soccer they were stuck in there. I haven't put the piercing ones back in since I could take them out. The first time Mom tried to take them out she pulled at them, they were really tight and she said they didn't want to come out so she stopped. I have six pairs of earrings. The reason I haven't been blogging is because Mom hasn't gotten me an account yet.
Today and tomorrow we don't have any school. Because of parent teacher conferences. FOUR DAYS OF WEEKEND! They made this new stupid grading thing for our report cards. (Mom says its just because they are new) I don't agree with her. There's like E's and M's instead of A's and B's...I wanted those real grades!
At Faith in God I made a journal. Well actually we just put paper on a composition notebook. Mine is orange and pink and yellow and red... and all those kind of colors. It is polka dot on the front and solid orange on the back.
That's all for now.

Countdown
I am so excited that in 2 weeks, I will be at the airport picking Max up! WOW. It has been a long time for this mom to miss her kid.
Tomorrow and Friday are conferences so the littles are off of school. Should be a nice relaxed couple of days. Jack and I are going to head to the library for some research materials for his Trek History Day project and Sophie needs to read a Nancy Drew book over the weekend, but that is about it.
I am catering a scrapbooking event with a friend on Saturday, so we will be making 150 lunches and dropping them off. We always do it for our own events so another consultant asked if she could hire us. Will have to see if it is worth it.
Very happy to have Grandpa Dick coming this next week. I had drawn his name for Christmas so my early gift to him was the frequent flyer ticket to come for a week and work on the Africa book that he wants to put together. Dad goes to Orlando next week so it will be nice to have my dad here.
Next week is Primary Program and Priesthood Preview for Luke. Seems like just yesterday that Max had his Priesthood preview. Speaking of Luke growing up - MAN, he is definitely the "stinkiest" pre-teen we have ever had. I practically have to peel his smelly UnderArmor off of him. Yuk. Fortunately he finds the entire subject pretty darn amusing.
I love you all. Be good, and remember who you are. Don't do any bad things. Does that about cover it?
Love-

The Party is over
The tribe lost tonight big time - again... Very disappointing as I always hope this will be the season Cleveland gets a winner, but it was fun to be in the playoffs and exceed expectations.
It is really good to be home. The past few weeks have included a ton of travel and there is nothing like being in Lakewood with Lexi and the kids. I have been to San Antonio, Houston and Chicago in the past 10 days.
The weekend - had a great dinner with Mom on Friday night upon returning from Chicago. We ate at the Clifton diner down at the corner of Clifton and 117th. Saturday morning Luke and Sophie played soccer - Sophie had a goal and Luke was awesome. Luke didn't particularly like taking a solid ball kicked into his privates, but he got past it and went back into the game eventually. We then worked on the house and the yard all afternoon getting it ready for the Halloween parties, fall, etc. with pumpkins, cats, spiders, etc - Mom will have to put some pictures on the blog.
We saw Sam run in the district CC meet down at Edgewater. He had a great season, got his Varsity Letter and improved incredibly. I of course am hoping he trains in the off season because I know he can continue improving. It was really fun watching him this season. I'm sure he will get his license the next time around...
Jack is done with CC and had a really good season, running second on his team and is now ready for LHS next year. He played the trumpet in the marching band for the Middle School football game last week and both he and Luke sang the National Anthem with the Middle School choir to start the game. Unfortunately Garfield killed Harding, but it was a packed house - it is great to see Lakewood support the teams.
Mom is amazing - keeping the house running great, doing an awesome job as the stake YW Pres. and doing service several times a week for members of the ward. She is also my best friend - you boys will be so lucky to find a girl like mom someday!
I love you - Dad

Sunday Night
Hello family -
Another beautiful day in Lakewood - All is well here but the Tribe was pretty disappointing this weekend. They had their chance, just didn't happen. Bummer.
We do have the most AWESOME-ly decorated house for Halloween. My friends, Debbie and Gail came over with all kinds of their stuff and willing hands to decorate. Luke and Sophie had a party last night. 10 boys and 4 girls. The boys were a little nutsy but fortunately it was warm outside and they went out to play capture the flag. One of Luke's friends came dressed as Luke DeBaltzo. He had sprayed his hair red and wore a BYU cap (which Luke always has on). It was great. We made caramel apples, monster cupcakes, ate lots of pizza. All around good time.
Next weekend we are having an adult costume dinner party and then Sam is going to have friends over after the Stake fall festival on Saturday - so we should get some good use out of all the decorations.
Sorry we couldn't be at parents' weekend at the Y this year - we certainly thought about you, Max. Thanksgiving is getting closer and we are so glad that we don't have to wait until Christmas to see you.
Really proud of Sam who got invited into NHS this week - he finished his Cross Country season on Saturday - He says he is going to miss it. I think he will benefit from a little more down time! Hopefully he will get his license this week as well which would be exciting.
Today Jack shared the following story with me - I especially loved that it came from Jack who had kind of a rough school week - Please know how much I identify with the story - as does your Heavenly Father - you are priceless spirits. I love you. Mom
"A well-known speaker started off his seminar by: holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this. He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air. My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE and WHOSE WE ARE. You are special - Don't EVER forget it."

Hello from Mom
Well it has been a funny weekend. We had NEOEA day on Friday so no school but everyone seemed to have plans. Sophie and Luke spent the day at Kalahari Water Park at Cedar Point with the Schleckmans, Jack went apple picking with a gang of middle schoolers - I am pretty sure that the key activity was "see and be seen" because I didn't see a single apple come home.
Dad has been out of town since Weds - and doesn't come home until late tonight. So it has been pretty low key around here. But we do miss him and can't wait to have him come home!
Sam took his driver's test on Friday - aced the manueverability but then failed to "yield" during the driver's portion which is an automatic - "you need to wait and take the test again next week". He was disappointed.
However, as we drove home and just got into Lakewood - the Lexus started driving really oddly. The RPMs were racing and speed dropping. Definitely feels like a transmission issue. I managed to creep it to the repair shop - they think it may only be some fluids - (Dad and Sam both mentioned to me after the fact that there has been liquid on the driveway under the car) So I am hoping for the best and most affordable repair.
Anyway - the reason I recite all this is because President Eyring's talk was my favorite at conference last week. He talked about "seeing God's hand in his life or the life of his children each day" and the need to recognize it and not take things for granted. I know that had Sam passed his test, I would have had him drop me off and let him go for the day with a full tank of gas. To have something mechanical like that happen to the car could really have been treacherous. So yes, to me, that was God's hand in our life that day. For which I am truly grateful. Sometimes it is the very small moments in life that do the most to strengthen my testimony.
This weekend was Stake Conference and we have a new Stake President - President Titera. He will be different than President Rice but we are very happy with the opportunities that lie ahead for the stake. Counselors didn't change so my life in YW should continue merrily along and I can keep working on my Nauvoo Youth Conference that I am really hoping will happen.
It has been great to be able to talk to Max frequently, and Sam and I had some great time together this weekend. A nice lunch on Friday after the car fiasco and an AWESOME time watching him run on Saturday evening. It was so great to cheer him on and watch him kick it up a notch as we screamed his name.
I love you all - You are the light of my life.

Love the pictures
Hey Max - keep posting the pictures, helps to know what a great time you are having. Glad that you are looking healthy - You were looking pretty ghostly pale in that B of M class picture. Like the Mens' Chorus jackets - pretty slick.

Just Getting Ready For Book Of Mormon
We Went glow in the dark ice skating (Dane, alayna, me, and mark)
Climbing Mt. Timpanogas, the view was awe-inspiring...

Men's Chorus final list...turn your head, far right, 2 under the crease...
I'm having an awesome time, and it looks and sounds like you are too. I've been able to talk to most of you pretty recently. Well, this weekend was alot of fun, i'm thoroughly enjoying myself, it's really great. Classes are good...long, but that's to be expected I spose. So, I got to go to conference this weekend, and it was incredible, the talks were amazing, and it was nice to see Mark Lewis. Well, I'm not really sure what you all want to know about. I'm just wondering how schools going for everyone, and all that. How are the ladies (and guys sos girl...)! I've been hanging out with this cool girl for the last couple weeks, and she's pretty cool, we've gone on several dates, and hung out alot. So everything seems pretty dandy thus far. Well, i'm off to finish some BOM reading. I Love You all and I'll talk to you soon .

Hello
Hello - I am trying it out. Well Mom is typing. Today I played soccer. I got one goal as the only girl on the team. We won the game 6 to 1. Then we came home and had two friends over for conference. Sean, Luke's friend and Cate, my friend. We had pizza, chips and lemonade. At half time of conference, we went to the beach and swam. I know, pretty strange but it was like 85 degrees. Well, that's pretty much all. Love from Sophie

from Africa
I love the DeBaltzo blog! The pictures to the right are so great and make me very homesick for my beautiful DeBaltzo grandchildren.
Today Grandpa Dick and I drive to Kruger Park for a few days. It is nice to be on our own after 30 days with some high maintenance guests. One of our favorite things to do in Kruger Park is to just drive around, dirt roads preferably, and look for animals. You never know what might be lurking around the next corner. I hope that someday we will be able to show some of you this amazing country.
We won't be able to watch any of the Conference sessions sadly, but will be thinking about Max especially as he watches "in person"....... Can't wait to see you Max when we get back to Eden!
Love you all so much........Ya-Ya

Glad to be home
I was in Bentonville, AR this past week and am glad to be home. All is well in the world of Wal-Mart, but I prefer watching the Indians in Cleveland, OH. Being up 2-0 is good, although you can never count out the hated Yankees so I'm asking everyone to root, root, root for the Indians, if they don't win it's a shame!
I'm excited for General Conference this weekend and the fact Max will actually see some of the sessions in Salt Lake at the conference center - including my favorite session of all, Priesthood. It will be very strange after six years of attending all the Priesthood sessions with Max to be without you. I will have Sam and Jack with me and we will look for you at the broadcast! It will be neat to see who the new Apostle is this weekend also.
I'm hoping for a little beach time with the Lakewood crew between sessions tomorrow as it is supposed to hit almost 90 degrees. I love the late summer weather we are having thanks to El Nino coming through again.
I have two more trips coming up in the next two weeks so won't be in Cleveland a whole lot - Houston from the 10th-15th and Chicago on the 18th-19th. The only upside of the Chicago trip is that one of my fraternity brothers is working on Van Halen concert tickets.
No funny anecdotes tonight- I'll be better prepared in the future. I love you all...

"Are there parents gonna be there"
Hey, I decided I'd give this whole blog thing a shot...Well, college is absolutely amazing, I am loving every second of it, and it had made high school and everything else worthwhile. I've done alot of very cool things, and it's been amazing. Tonight I'm going country dancing with this cute girl christina i met, so that should be a blast. I've got lots of music for the external hardrive so that will be exciting...i'll write more later...-max
Family Home Evening
Sophie did a great family home evening lesson Monday night about choices - interactive as all of Sophie's lessons are. I leave for Hilton Head this afternoon and will miss the family. I'm curious how Max's new calling as Family Home evening group leader went and what he does in this calling? I love you all - see you soon... Dad

More from Me
Well, maybe this will work after all! It is taking a bit of effort to get around the parental controls on everyone's accounts...but eventually it is going to be great! Max just called and I got to talk to him for about 45 minutes. It was good to get a peek into his world a little bit. Sounds like BYU is agreeing with him. I am sure that he will post about his classes and stuff. I am very glad that I missed the chipmunk adventure as I refused to come down stairs until the chipmunk was GONE. Luke said the chipmunk was very cute and it lay on it's back playing dead (terrified I think) with all 4 legs and tail straight up in the air. Luke said he felt a lot more sorry for the chipmunk because he was so cute "compared to a mouse, which you just don't care about at all." True. True.
Meatballs need making and the wood blinds need dusting.
Everyday I am grateful for the best job of all...being the mom for our family!
I love you-

Moses....
So Moses had a GREAT adventure today, soo, he got outside and within the 30 sec. of me seeing him inside then seeing him outside, he caught a CHIPMUNK!!! Sooo after a long and furious high speed chase me and Luke trying to catch the chipmunk with bags, and moses using his teeth, the chipmunk jumped out the mail slot. the end.
A few pictures for you guys!
I'm in!
Hi everybody,
I am really excited about Max making the BYU Men's Chorus last week - that is awesome. I also thought it was awesome that Sam and Jack both PR'd in CC meets on Saturday and Sophia and Luke both had really good soccer games. I missed everyone since I was at a greenhouse conference most of the weekend, but look forward to seeing you all tonight.
We'll see what Sophia has planned for FHE and next week, Luke and Jack's "great escape" FHE on Monday night!
Love you,
Dad

A new beginning
Most of us are still at home - but as Max joins the world of adulthood, I decided that it was time for our family to have our own little blog. For now, it is still just the 7 of us...I wonder how much that may change in the next 10 years. Post what is going on in your life, highs and lows and we can all share. I love each of you more than you know. Love- Mom
